沈保根,男,1952年9月生于浙江省平湖市,中國科學院物理研究所研究員、稀土研究院研究員、首席科學家、博士生導師,中國科學院院士,發展中國家科學院院士,第十二屆全國政協委員。曾任中國科學院物理研究所黨委書記、磁學國家重點實驗室主任,中國科學院副秘書長兼學部主席團秘書長、院士工作局局長,中國電子學會應用磁學分會主任,中國物理學會磁學專業委員會主任等。現任中國科學院技術科學部副主任,中國科學院大學教授,中國散裂中子源科技委主任,合肥穩態強磁場裝置科技委主任,中國高技術產業化研究會副理事長,中國再生資源產業技術創新戰略聯盟專家委員會主任,中國稀土學會磁制冷專業委員會主任,磁學國家重點實驗室學術委員會主任,中國科學院磁性材料與器件重點實驗室、強耦合量子材料物理重點實驗室和微觀磁共振重點實驗室學術委員會主任,浙江省磁性材料應用技術制造業創新中心專家委員會主任,國家重點研發計劃大科學裝置、材料基因工程、固廢資源化等專項總體專家組成員,《中國大百科全書》物理學科副主編,《Chinese Physics B》、《物理學報》副主編等。
長期從事磁學和磁性材料的研究工作,主要研究非晶態合金、稀土-鐵基化合物、稀土永磁材料、稀土磁熱效應材料和稀土鐵氧體等的結構與磁性。研究了稀土-鐵基化合物的結構與磁性以及納米晶復相稀土永磁材料的微結構、相結構與磁性的關系,合成出多種新型稀土永磁材料,解釋了稀土永磁材料的矯頑力機制和納米復合永磁材料的磁性耦合機理;研究了稀土-過渡族化合物的晶體結構、相變、磁性和磁熱效應,發現了一級相變鑭鐵硅基大磁熱效應材料,室溫最大磁熵變超過傳統材料稀土釓的兩倍,利用中子衍射、穆斯堡爾譜、電子結構計算和磁性測量等手段,研究了一級相變體系在相變溫度附近的磁熱效應,揭示了一級相變體系中大磁熱效應的物理機制,給出了正確表征相分離一級相變體系熵變的方法;深入研究了非晶態合金的磁性和輸運性質,解釋了非晶態合金中磁性和電性的反常現象。發表學術論文600余篇,被他人引用13000余次。
